Humboldt Park

A Killer’s Mind

Humboldt Park is one of three Chicago locations linked to the victims’ bodies and the memorial shrines made for the dead girls. In a conversation with Harry Barry, it becomes both a place of loss and a site where he found an item connected to the investigation.

A Location of the Murders

Harry identifies Humboldt Park as the second of three places where he found the items being discussed; the other two are Foster Beach and Ohio Street Beach. The locations carry a darker connection: together, they are named as the places where the bodies had been left. The exchange places Humboldt Park within a wider pattern rather than presenting it as an isolated setting.

Memorial and Evidence

The bodies’ locations had also become sites of remembrance. People made shrines for the dead girls at those places, and Harry explains that the items were placed on the shrines. He had taken photographs of them and offers to send the images, while modestly noting that he was a poor photographer. Humboldt Park thus appears in the account as both a place marked by violence and a place where mourners created visible memorials.
